Academics & Athletics

Academics

At Franklin Academy, we follow clear, consistent, measurable guidelines for what every student should know and be able to do from kindergarten through 12th grade.

Standards and benchmarks are important because they:

  1. Identify the knowledge and skills developed for a specific grade level, grade band, or developmental level
  2. Help define the course credit requirements for graduation
  3. Serve as a guide for the adoption and design of curricula

Consistent standards provide a way for teachers to measure student progress throughout the school year and ensure that students are on the pathway to success in their academic careers.

Franklin Academy uses:

  • Common Core State Standards for math and English Language Arts
  • Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards for social studies
  • Minnesota benchmarks for physical education

The standards below are used for other key content areas:

  • Art Education: National Visual Art Standards
  • Science: Next Generation Science Standards
  • Health: National Health Education Standards
  • Spanish: National Standards for Foreign Language Education

Athletics

Athletics at Franklin Academy empower students with opportunities to develop leadership skills, practice good sportsmanship and discover the importance of teamwork. There are no formal tryouts, and all interested students are eligible to participate.
